Choice Music Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Choice Music Prize is an Irish music prize that has been awarded annually by critics since 2005 . It has been named Irish Album of the Year and, since 2011, Irish Song of the Year.

responsible

The prize was brought into being by David Reid and Jim Carroll, who jointly managed the project until the Choice Music Prize was awarded in 2009 . Since Carroll's departure, Reid has led the project alone. Responsible for financing are interest group of the Irish music industry Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA), the Irish development company Irish Music Rights Organization (IMRO) and an association of Irish musicians called Recorded Artists Actors Performers (RAAP).

procedure

In January, a jury of twelve, made up of staff from Irish television and radio stations, music magazines, newspapers and music websites, meets to select what they consider to be the ten best Irish music albums of the past year. The line-up of the jury changes every year. You can choose from all music albums that meet the criteria below. In March, the awards ceremony will take place in Dublin's Vicar Street Concert Hall , where the winner will be announced. All ten nominees are invited to play at the event. In the past it happened that some artists had to cancel due to deadlines. The winner, whose album was chosen as the best Irish album of the year, will receive a trophy and a check for 10,000 euros.

Later in January, the jury will also decide on the ten best songs of the year, using the airplay charts. All song publications, including radio songs and album tracks, are considered candidates if they meet the criteria listed below. Everyone can vote for the winner online or by SMS. The winning title will be announced together with the album prize winner.

criteria

Radio and promo releases and album titles (from albums released in the respective year) can also be included.
  • The nominated songs can come from any imaginable genre.
