Róisín Marie Murphy (born July 5, 1973 in Arklow , County Wicklow ) is an Irish musician and record producer who became known as the singer of the British- Irish duo Moloko . Her first name translates as "rose".

Music career

Moloko

Róisín Murphy had no professional singing experience when she met British producer Mark Brydon at a party , with whom she then formed the band Moloko. During their first conversation, the phrase "Do you like my tight sweater?" Is said to have fallen, which then became the title of their 1995 debut album. In addition to their professional life, Murphy and Brydon also had a personal relationship until shortly before the last Moloko album Statues was released in 2002.

Parallel to her work for Moloko, Murphy also sang for other artists, such as Boris Dlugosch , Handsome Boy Modeling School and Psychedelic Waltons. In 2004 she also worked on the Band Aid 20 aid project .

2004: First solo album Ruby Blue

After four studio albums with Moloko, Murphy recorded her first solo material in 2004, with producer Matthew Herbert , who had previously remixed Moloko. The first recordings appeared in limited editions in advance, exclusively on vinyl EPs, with the titles Sequins 1 , Sequins 2 and Sequins 3 . Her debut album Ruby Blue was released in 2005, when the singles If We're in Love and Sow into You were released .

2006: Overpowered

In 2006 Murphy moved from her old record label Echo to EMI ; under this label her second solo album Overpowered was released on October 12, 2007 . For this she worked with Paul Dolby, Andy Cato from Groove Armada and Jimmy Douglass, among others . The album was particularly successful in Belgium , where it achieved gold status in 2008. For a commercial company Gucci she sang a cover version of Bryan Ferry -Songs Slave to Love one.

Since 2009

In late 2009, Murphy released the single Orally Fixated , which only made it to the UK indie charts. Together with Marius de Vries she produced the song Yellow Moon for the album The Revolution . She also worked with the Crookers , which resulted in two songs: Royal T and Hold Up Your Hands . Both were released on the album Tons of Friends .

In early 2010, Murphy released the single, Momma's Place , which was available on the Internet a month before its release date. In autumn 2012 another single publication appeared with the title Simulation . On May 8, 2015, she released her third solo album, Hairless Toys .

Personal

Murphy gave birth to a daughter on December 15, 2009; The father of the child is the Briton Simon Henwood. She is in a relationship with the Italian Sebastiano Properzi, with whom she has a son (* 2012).
