from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Uwe Kliemann (born June 30, 1949 in Berlin ) is a former German soccer player and coach.

Kliemann began his club career in 1961 at BC Lichterfelde in 1912 and went to Hertha Zehlendorf in 1964 , where he finally moved up after a few years in the first men's team that competed in the then second-rate Berlin Regionalliga . In 1969 and 1970, Kliemann, who was already a regular player and was named the best home-grown player in Berlin in 1968, won the regional league championship with Zehlendorf, but failed in the promotion rounds to the Bundesliga. With a move to the Bundesliga for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in 1970, the professional career of the 1.96 m tall central defender began. In 1972 he moved to Eintracht Frankfurt , where he developed into one of the best defensive players in the Bundesliga and was nicknamed the Berlin Radio Tower by fans because of his size and Berlin origins . With the Frankfurt team, he won the DFB Cup in 1974 , although he was not used in the final because the final was moved to the following season by the World Cup, when he played for Hertha BSC . As a player for Hertha BSC, he made his only international match on May 17, 1975 against the Netherlands . The game ended 1-1 after goals from Herbert Wimmer and Wim van Hanegem . Kliemann was in the starting line-up. With Hertha he also reached the final of the DFB Cup 1976/77 against 1. FC Köln , which he lost 0-1 after a 1-1 draw in the first game in the replay. Two years later he moved into the final of the DFB-Pokal 1978/79 and this time also lost 1-0 to Fortuna Düsseldorf. After a mistake by Kliemann, Wolfgang Seel scored the winning goal in the 116th minute.

Uwe Kliemann stayed at Herthan until 1980 and then moved to Arminia Bielefeld after the Berlin team was relegated from the Bundesliga . However, due to injuries, he did not make a single game for the Bielefeld team and had to end his career at the end of the 1981 season. In 1984, Kliemann appeared when he took over his former club Hertha BSC as coach, but was dismissed in December 1985. For a few months he then took over as a trainer at SpVgg Bayreuth .

From 1986 Kliemann lived in South Africa for two years. After his return to Germany he took over as a coach for a few years the A-youth of Eintracht Braunschweig , with whom he reached the final of the DFB junior club cup in 1992. Kliemann was also the assistant coach of the professional team at BTSV. In 1993 he was the coach of TSV Havelse in the then third-class Oberliga Nord for a few months . In the mid-2000s he was hired by Werder Bremen as a scout for the youth sector.
