Wolfgang Seel (born June 21, 1948 in Kirkel , Saarland ) is a former German soccer player who played six times in the DFB's senior national team.

Career

The midfielder Seel started playing football at SV Kirkel. At the age of 18, he moved to 1. FC Saarbrücken in 1966 in what was then the Regionalliga Südwest, in which he played from 1966 to 1971. From 1971 to 1973 he played 65 games in the Bundesliga for 1. FC Kaiserslautern for whom he scored 16 goals after not being promoted to Saarbrücken. In 1973 he moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf for a transfer fee of DM 300,000 . In the Bundesliga he played a total of 361 games for 1. FC Kaiserslautern , Fortuna Düsseldorf and 1. FC Saarbrücken from 1971 to 1986 , in which he scored 79 goals. Between 1982 and 1986 he played 86 games for 1. FC Saarbrücken in the 2nd division and 1st Bundesliga. He scored 19 goals in those games.

The striker was part of the Fortuna Düsseldorf team, which had several national players in its ranks at the end of the 1970s and early 1980s with the brothers Klaus and Thomas Allofs , Gerd Zewe and Manfred Bockenfeld and against Hertha BSC in 1979 (Seel scored the decisive goal here to 1-0 in the 117th minute of the game) and in 1980 won the DFB Cup 2-1 against 1. Wolfgang Seel himself was active six times in the German national soccer team from 1974 to 1977 . He played his first game in the 2-1 win against Switzerland on September 4, 1974. His last game he played on December 14, 1977 in a 1-1 win against Wales.

After the career

After finishing his active career, Seel worked for Saarland Sport-Toto GmbH until 2007. He also played again in his current home town of Oberwürzbach for the first team of SV Oberwürzbach and achieved the championship in the district league A in the 1997/98 season. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Bundesliga, Seel was promoted to a "Saarland anniversary team" in 2013 “Chosen.
