career

Borussia Neunkirchen, 1969 to 1972

The young amateur footballer of SV Stennweiler opened his higher-class career in the 1969/70 round in the Regionalliga Südwest in the Ellenfeldstadion near Borussia Neunkirchen . Coach Kurt Sommerlatt helped the young talent to make his debut in the new division on August 10, 1969, in the away game against ASV Landau . In the second and third regional rounds, 1970/71 and 1971/72 , the technically outstanding midfielder with a talent for combining belonged to the two championship teams of Borussia in the southwest. Fortuna Düsseldorf and Wuppertaler SV prevailed in the promotion rounds . Zewe accepted Fortuna Dusseldorf's offer for the 1972/73 round and moved to the Bundesliga .

Fortuna Düsseldorf, 1972 to 1987

He played from 1972 to 1987 at Fortuna Düsseldorf as a midfielder and defender. He played a total of 440 games in the Bundesliga and scored 42 goals, making him the Rhinelander's record player in the Bundesliga to this day. In his debut year in the Bundesliga, 1972/73 , he completed all 34 league games under the coach Heinz Lucas and ranked third with Fortuna. On June 17, 1987, the veteran, who had just turned 37, played his last Bundesliga game. In 1979 and 1980 he won the DFB Cup with Fortuna . On May 16, 1979, he stood with Fortuna in the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup , which Fortuna unfortunately lost 3: 4 against FC Barcelona .

In 1987 he let his career end with the Würzburger Kickers .

National team, 1973 to 1979

Under national coach Helmut Schön , the Fortuna newcomer was tested for the first time in midfield in March and May 1973 in the U-23 junior national team at the international matches against the USA and Denmark. In September 1973 followed the third appointment in the European Championship qualifier against Poland. In the 1978 World Cup, he played against England on February 21 and against Sweden on April 18 as a Libero in the B-country team .

In the National Team, he was active in 1978 and 1979 in four games and took in 1978 with the German national team at the World Cup in part in Argentina, but without the commitment to the beautiful elf to come. Amateur trainer

After his long and successful playing career, Zewe worked as a coach at 1. FC Union Solingen , Schwarz-Weiß Essen , SC Kapellen-Erft , TuS Grevenbroich and 1. FC Viersen , among others . Until March 2013 he was a youth coaching advisor at DJK Eintracht Hoeningen.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Bundesliga, Zewe was elected to a “Saarland Anniversary Elf” in 2013. All Saarlanders who had played in the Bundesliga since 1963 were up for a vote, which was organized by Ellenfeld eV and the Saarpark Center .
