Bundesliga 1970/71

The 1970/71 regional football league season was the eighth season of the second-highest division in German football .

Season overview

With Fortuna Düsseldorf , in the promotion round without defeat, and VfL Bochum , which achieved seven wins in eight games in the promotion round, two teams from Regionalliga West made it to the Bundesliga .

The two Bundesliga relegated Alemannia Aachen and TSV 1860 Munich each missed the promotion round. Tasmania Berlin was able to end the regular season with only one defeat - against Berlin runner-up Wacker 04 Berlin - but still had no chance in the promotion round and was last.

In the Regionalliga Süd , a former German champion, VfR Mannheim , which was accompanied by the three promoters of the previous season, had to move into the third division.

mode

The game was played in five regional leagues. The two best teams in each regional league at the end of the regular season played the two first division promoted teams in two five-team rounds. With the exception of the Regionalliga Süd, in which the last four teams were affected, the last two in all leagues had to be relegated to the 1st amateur league.

Promotion round to the Regionalliga Süd

The SV Darmstadt 98 as a master of the first amateur league Hesse and SpVgg Bayreuth as a master of Bayernliga went directly to the Regionalliga Süd. The champions of the 1st amateur leagues: South Baden, North Baden, North Württemberg and Black Forest-Bodensee played the third promoted team in a promotion round. At the end of the round, FC Singen 04 , SV Waldhof Mannheim and SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg were tied on points, so a decision-making round was necessary to determine who had been promoted. Waldhof defeated Singen in the first play-off on penalties and met SpVgg 07 Ludwigsburg in the final on June 20, 1971 in Rastatt. Ludwigsburg won 2-1 and rose.
