1st amateur league
1. Amateur league was in the period after the Second World War until the introduction of the amateur leagues in the 1970s, the designation of the highest amateur class in the southern German and southwest German state associations of the German Football Association .

In the years after World War II, the league established itself relatively quickly as the new top division in the western occupation zones . Little by little, the regional football associations and, at the beginning of 1950, the German Football Association were re-established. Also in 1950, with the establishment of contract player statutes, a kind of semi-profit was introduced for the major leagues. The amateur leagues were located below the upper leagues. Depending on the regional association, the top amateur class was organized and named differently:
- In the regional associations South and Southwest , where there was a second league as a contract player , the first amateur leagues were the third highest division. The 1st Amateur League Bayern became the Bayernliga in 1963 and the 1st Amateur League Hessen became the Hessenliga in 1965 .
- In the regional association West , where there was also a second league, the regional leagues and from 1956 the association leagues of Westphalia , Lower Rhine and Middle Rhine formed the third highest division.
- In the North Regional Association and in Berlin , where there was no second league, the highest amateur class was called the Amateur League . The amateur leagues Schleswig-Holstein , Hamburg , Bremen , Lower Saxony and Berlin were located directly below the upper league .
After the introduction of the Bundesliga as the top division in the Federal Republic from 1963, the regional league was introduced as a substructure in the five regional associations , the licensed player replaced the previous "contract player" as the name for the semi-professional. Below these two highest leagues, regionally different names were used for the highest amateur classes, which now formed the third highest league level nationwide.
The next major reform of the divisions took place in 1974 when the 2nd Bundesliga replaced the regional leagues . As a result, the higher amateur leagues were reformed again in the 1970s. With the introduction of the Oberliga Nord and Oberliga Berlin in 1974 and the other German leagues in 1978, the league names 1st amateur league and amateur league were given up wherever they were used until then.
