The 2002/03 season of the Regionalliga was the ninth season of the Regionalliga as the third highest division in German football. It was played in two regional seasons - North and South - with 18 teams each.
The champions and runners-up in the North and South seasons went straight to the 2nd Bundesliga .
North
The northern relay played with 18 teams in the 2002/03 season. By winning the championship, FC Erzgebirge Aue was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga . VfL Osnabrück secured the runner-up and promotion .
The SC Verl , the amateurs of Bayer 04 Leverkusen and the Dresdner SC were relegated to the top league in a sporty way . The SV Babelsberg 03 withdrew his application for a license back and had to relegated.

The southern season played in the 2002/03 season with 19 teams. The SpVgg Unterhaching succeeded by winning the championship of promotion to the 2. Bundesliga . The runner-up and also the promotion secured the SSV Jahn Regensburg .
The SV Darmstadt 98 , the amateurs of Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Neunkirchen increased to a sporty way into the league from. Since the second division relegated SSV Reutlingen 05 and SV Waldhof Mannheim did not receive a regional league license for the following season, the Stuttgart Kickers and Sportfreunde , who were actually relegated, remained victories in the regional league.
