Achim Weber (born March 11, 1969 in Velbert ) is a former German professional soccer player and after retiring initially worked as a sports director and sports director, before becoming an expert in the field of strategic corporate marketing.
career
He spent his career mainly with clubs from the Ruhr area. For SC Fortuna Köln , Rot-Weiß Oberhausen , VfL Bochum , Wuppertaler SV and finally Rot-Weiss Essen , he played nine Bundesliga games (1 goal), 102 second division games (44 goals) and 168 regional league games (83 goals).
Weber scored 19 goals for VfL Bochum in the 1999/2000 second division season and was promoted to the Bundesliga with the Bochum team. With the Wuppertaler SV, the center forward became league champions in 1992 and was promoted to the second division, in 1997/98 he also led Rot-Weiß Oberhausen to the championship and the associated promotion to the second division with 18 goals this season.
Achim Weber reached the semi-finals with Oberhausen in the 1998/99 DFB Cup , scoring six goals in five games and becoming the top scorer in the 1998/99 season. In the Schalke Parkstadion, RWO finally lost 3-1 to Bayern Munich in front of almost 50,000 spectators . With VfL Bochum Weber reached the quarter-finals in 1999/2000 . He scored a total of twelve goals in twelve DFB Cup games. His move from Oberhausen to Bochum is still one of the most expensive second division transfers of all time. In the all-time top scorer list of the 2nd Bundesliga, he is in 24th place according to "goals per minute played".
After his active career, Weber acquired the Trainer A license and successfully completed his diploma in sports management. From May 2006 he worked as a sports director for the regional league team Wuppertaler SV . After Weber was again working as a consultant to the board of directors for his former club Wuppertaler SV, he took up the position of managing director there in May 2010 . Achim Weber then changed industry and worked for a PR and marketing agency in Essen.
In the course of the annual general meeting of the traditional club Wuppertaler SV, which had gone into bankruptcy, in May 2013, Achim Weber ran as a sports director and subsequently helped the club to successfully complete the bankruptcy phase and celebrate new sporting successes. After the association was steered into calm waters and was free of debt, he ended his mandate on the board, which he did the whole time parallel to his main job as a marketing expert. He has remained connected to the sport and has been advising football teachers on their career path for several years.
As founder and managing director of the communications agency 16 Meter GmbH, he supports both start-ups and hidden champions in the field of strategic marketing consulting.
