Waldemar "Waldi" Gerhardt (born January 6, 1939 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a former German football player and coach . He played from 1963 to 1967 for FC Schalke 04 and Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga .
Club career
FC Schalke 04
Gerhardt joined the youth team of FC Schalke 04 at the age of eight and became a West German champion with the youth team. In the Schalke championship year 1958, the winger was part of the first team's squad. In the championship round, however, he was not used. In the league season 1960/61 he became a regular player. In the three seasons leading up to the start of the Bundesliga, he scored 29 goals in 74 league appearances. In the first Bundesliga season he was on the field in all games; he scored his first Bundesliga goal on the first day of the match to 2-0 final score against VfB Stuttgart , at the end of the season there were nine goals and eight assists, making him the second best scorer of the Knappen . In the following season he scored eleven goals in just 22 league games; there were also four goals in the DFB Cup , including the 1-0 in the semi-finals at Alemannia Aachen , which Schalke lost 3: 4 after extra time.
Fortuna Dusseldorf
In 1965 Gerhardt moved to the Regionalliga West at Fortuna Düsseldorf . With 16 goals in 34 games, he made a significant contribution to the Bundesliga promotion of the Düsseldorf team. In the 1966/67 season he was successful twelve times for Fortuna in 30 games, but could not prevent direct relegation. He made his last two Bundesliga goals on the penultimate matchday against 1. FC Kaiserslautern when he overcame FCK keeper Wolfgang Schnarr twice in a 3-1 win after he had already given the template to make it 1-0. He stayed two seasons with Fortuna in the Regionalliga, but only came up four times in his last season in 1968/69.
After the active time
The trained locksmith had trained as a computer programmer in addition to football and completed a sports degree in Cologne in the mid-1960s. Together with Hannes Löhr and Wolfgang Weber , he made his coaching license at Hennes Weisweiler . He later became a sports teacher at a secondary school in Düsseldorf. He also trained black and white food in 1972/73 . With VfB Remscheid he became Niederrheinmeister in 1974 and reached the final of the German Amateur Championship , in which Remscheid was only subject to SSV Reutlingen 05 after a replay. In 1978, Gerhardt led VfB into the newly created Oberliga Nordrhein .
He was a member of the teaching staff of the Lower Rhine Football Association .
