Oswald Traub

Oswald "Ossi" Traub (born November 17, 1926 in Karlsruhe ; † May 17, 2020 there ) was a German football player .

Traub came to VfB Mühlburg as an eight-year-old in May 1935 , for whom he scored 16 goals in 74 games between 1947, after Mühlburg had been promoted to the Oberliga Süd , as a fast, tricky and physically strong striker (right winger) . After the merger with KFC Phönix in 1952, he played at the newly founded Karlsruher SC until 1959 and played 148 points games, in which he scored 38 goals. Overall, he came in the Oberliga Süd between 1947 and 1959 to 223 games and 53 goals. The highlights of his career were winning the DFB Cup in 1955 and 1956, and in the 1955 cup final he even advanced to the match winner when he scored the decisive goal to make it 3-2 in the 86th minute.

After his time at KSC, he was still a guest appearance at 1. FC Pforzheim , initially in the II. Division , most recently in the first season 1963/64 of the newly introduced Regionalliga Süd . During this season, in which he celebrated his 37th birthday, he scored a goal in 17 games.

Several times, Traub was about to make the leap into the national team, while preparing for the 1954 World Cup he was even in Sepp Herberger's 40-man squad , but never played for the national team.

In the post-war years, the trained car mechanic, injured by shrapnel, worked for a bank in Karlsruhe for 30 years.
