DFB Cup 1979/80
DFB Cup winner 1980 was after the success in the previous year and participation in the final in the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1979 , which they had reached as the cup finalist of 1978, Fortuna Düsseldorf again. It was the first title for trainer Otto Rehhagel . The surprises of the competition were the elimination of last year's finalist Hertha BSC against the amateur club TuS 08 Langerwehe in the third round with 1: 2 and also in the third round the elimination of FC Bayern Munich with 0: 1 at SpVgg Bayreuth and HSV with 0 : 2 in Offenbach.
In the subsequent third consecutive participation in the European Cup Winners' Cup, the Düsseldorf team was eliminated in the quarter-finals against the Portuguese cup winner Benfica Lisbon and could therefore not reach the final in the local Rheinstadion .
