The Oberliga Berlin 1979/80 was the sixth season of the Berlin Association ballgame teams conducted Oberliga Berlin .
The champions were the Berlin FC Preussen , which qualified for the promotion games to the 2nd Bundesliga against the second in the Oberliga Nord . The champions then took part in the amateur championship final, in which the team lost in the first round to KSV Hessen Kassel .
The amateurs of Tennis Borussia Berlin and FV Brandenburg / Lichterfelde were relegated to the subordinate state league . In return, the Neuköllner Sportfreunde and SC Gatow rose in the following season .
Season course
After their second relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga, Wacker 04 Berlin was the favorite for the championship title alongside defending champion Hertha Zehlendorf and BFC Preussen . Zehlendorf was at the top of the table until the 5th matchday, before being replaced by the amateurs from Hertha BSC and Wacker 04 in constant rotation until the end of the first half of the season. The Hertha amateurs could no longer maintain their level in the second half of the season and ended up in a good fourth place. Wacker had set themselves apart from the competition after 19 games, but they only managed one win and three draws in the following eight games. As a result, BFC Preussen was able to take the lead on the 25th matchday, but lost it to the Lichterfelder SU (LSU) on the penultimate matchday through a defeat at Union 06 . Lichterfelde managed a series of 20 games without defeat and on the last matchday a draw would have been enough due to the better goal difference in the home game against Zehlendorf. The LSU could not take advantage of the moment and lost to last year's title holder with 1: 4. With a simultaneous 4-0 away win by the Prussians at Rapide Wedding , the championship went back to Lankwitz after 1977 .
SC Westend was involved in the relegation battle from the beginning in 1901 . He scored his first point on the 7th matchday, with only three more collected in the first half of the season. After two coach changes, SC Westend played the sixth best second half of the season and secured relegation on the last day of the match. The FV Brandenburg / Lichterfelde , who narrowly escaped relegation in the previous year, was relegated on 24 match days this season and was ultimately last. In addition to the FV, the amateurs of Tennis Borussia Berlin had to compete in the subordinate state league. Tennis Borussia could have celebrated relegation victory on the last day of the match, but did not get beyond a goalless draw in the home game against Spandauer BC 06 .
