↑ Bundesliga 1978/79 |
The 2nd Bundesliga 1978/79 was played in two seasons (north and south) of 20 teams each. The two relay champions Bayer 04 Leverkusen (North relay) and TSV 1860 Munich (South relay) were promoted directly to the 1st Bundesliga . The third promotion place was played in the relegation between the two runner-up Bayer 05 Uerdingen (North relay) and SpVgg Bayreuth (South relay). Here Uerdingen prevailed and rose to the Bundesliga.
The three previous year's promoters Arminia Bielefeld (in the North relay), SV Darmstadt 98 and 1. FC Nürnberg (in the South relay) rose from the 1st Bundesliga after a year of membership and played in the 2nd division in the 1979/80 season . Bundesliga.
North
Bayer Leverkusen were promoted to the 1st Bundesliga for the first time, having been at the top of the table without interruption since the second matchday. Since then, Leverkusen has been consistently represented in the 1st Bundesliga. Bayer Uerdingen secured the third promotion place in the relegation against SpVgg Bayreuth. FC St. Pauli , relegated from the 1st Bundesliga in the previous year, missed promotion as table sixth, but was not given a license for the 1979/80 season and was transferred back to the Oberliga Nord . FC St. Pauli was the first club to be handed over from the Bundesliga to the amateur camp within a year (due to the license withdrawal).
In addition to the license withdrawal of FC St. Pauli, Westfalia Herne had to return the second division license already received after the first match day of the 1979/80 season due to financial problems and was transferred back to the Oberliga Westfalen . The relegated clubs Rot-Weiß Lüdenscheid and VfL Osnabrück could therefore remain in the league. Third relegated was Wacker 04 Berlin, bottom of the table and last year .
