The 2013/14 season of the 2nd Bundesliga was the 40th season of the second highest German division in men's football . It began on July 19, 2013 and ended on May 11, 2014. From December 23, 2013 to February 7, 2014, the season was interrupted by a winter break.

The champions and the runner-up of the season qualified for participation in the coming season of the 2014/15 Bundesliga. The relegation games between the sixteenth in the Bundesliga and the third in the 2nd Bundesliga were played on May 15 and 18, 2014, the games between the sixteenth in the 2nd Bundesliga and the third in the 3rd division on May 16 and 19, 2014.

The 1. FC Köln , who had led the table for much of the season, to three games secured before the end of the rise and the championship and placed with just 20 goals conceded, a new second division record. Second was SC Paderborn 07 , which was promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time. The SpVgg Greuther Fürth qualified as third in the table for the relegation matches to the Bundesliga, but could not against whom Hamburger SV prevail and remained second-rate.

As the first relegated after 32 match days, the bottom of the table Energie Cottbus was determined. For the relegation against the third placed in the 3rd division, there was a direct duel between Dynamo Dresden and Arminia Bielefeld on the last day of the game , which Arminia won 3-2.
