Edmond Kapllani (born July 31, 1982 in Durrës ) is a former Albanian football player . He is the most successful foreign goalscorer in the history of the 2nd Bundesliga .

Career

societies

Kapllani started his career in Albania with KS Teuta Durrës . Via the Croatian club NK Orijent Rijeka , he ended up at the capital club FK Partizani Tirana . In 2003 he moved to KS Besa Kavaja . Here he made the breakthrough with twelve goals in 35 games and was appointed for the first time to the national team coached by the German Hans-Peter Briegel at the time . In the end, it was Briegel who paved the way for Kapllani to Germany.

In 2004 Kapllani signed a contract with the second division club Karlsruher SC . He had a difficult time with the Baden team. In his first year he only made 15 missions due to difficulties in adapting, and he only scored one goal. A year later he fought his way into the club's regular formation, played 25 league games and scored six goals. In the 2006/07 season , Kapllani was involved with 17 goals in Karlsruhe's rise to the Bundesliga . Only team-mate Giovanni Federico was more successful as a goalscorer this season. Despite lucrative offers from Germany and France, Kapllani extended his contract until 2010. In his first Bundesliga season 2007/08 , Kapllani did not manage to find his way as the only striker in the new 4-2-3-1 system of coach Edmund Becker . In the shadow of Sebastian Freis and winter newcomer Joshua Kennedy , he often only had a place on the bench. Only after Kennedy sustained an injury towards the end of the second half of the season did Kapllani move back into the starting line-up for the last five match days. He then scored his first Bundesliga goals against Werder Bremen and Hertha BSC . In the 2008/09 season , Kapllani came with only six starting eleven but again not beyond the role of reservist. The Karlsruher SC relegated to the 2nd Bundesliga at the end of the season .

Due to a contractual clause entitled to transfer free of charge, Kapllani signed a two-year contract with the then second division club FC Augsburg for the 2009/10 season . After he was only used twice in the first half of the season, he switched to league rivals TuS Koblenz on loan during the winter break . At Oberwerth Kapllani was a regular player and with five hits the most successful scorer in the back round of the TuS, which was relegated to the third division at the end of the season . In the 2010/11 season , Kapllani played in another loan deal for the second division club SC Paderborn 07 . At the beginning of the second half of the season he tore a cruciate ligament and was out for two months. At the end of the season he was Paderborn's top scorer with eight goals in 23 league games.

For the 2011/12 season returned Kapllani back to Augsburg after his contract was automatically renewed by the temporary rise of the FCA for another year. In November 2011 he scored another Bundesliga goal against VfL Wolfsburg as part of Augsburg's first Bundesliga home win in over three years. His contract, which expired at the end of the season, was not extended; he was passed on the last day of the game.

For the 2012/13 season Kapllani joined the second division club FSV Frankfurt . During the winter break he injured his cruciate ligament again during an indoor tournament and missed the first seven second round matches. After his recovery he was back in the Bornheim family . He played a total of 26 league games during the season. With eleven goals and five assists, he was the club's best goalscorer and preparer, who achieved the best placement in the club's history with fourth place in the table. In the 2013/14 season , Kapllani scored the only hat trick of his professional career in Germany and also his 50th second division with a 3-0 away win against Dynamo Dresden . At the end of November 2013, Kapllani was excluded from the game by the club until the end of the year, after he had previously converted a penalty in the away game against Energie Cottbus , although he was not intended as a shooter by coach Benno Möhlmann . At the initiative of the team council, the ban was lifted on December 11, 2013. In April 2014 Kapllani extended his contract prematurely by two years until June 30, 2016. With eleven goals at the end of the season, he was again the best league scorer in the FSV. In the 2014/15 season , Kapllani temporarily lost his regular place to Mohamed Aoudia and Zlatko Dedič . After a sporty downturn, the FSV was on the relegation place after the 33rd match day and coach Möhlmann was replaced by Tomas Oral . On the last matchday Kapllani met twice against Fortuna Düsseldorf , whereupon the Bornheimers secured the class with a 3-2 win. Overall, Kapllani scored eleven league goals for the third time in a row during the season. He was once again the best scorer in the FSV and among the ten best goal scorers in the league. In the 2015/16 season , Oral relied on rejuvenating the team and Kapllani back on the bench. When Falko Götz took over the relegation-threatened club five game days before the end, Kapllani was back in the starting line-up on the last two game days. Although he as last year scored two goals on the final day and TSV 1860 München 2: 1 was defeated, the FSV Frankfurt rose due to the results of the competition in eight years in the 3. Liga from. Kapllani's season record showed four starting eleven appearances, 15 substitutions and three goals.

For the 2016/17 season , Kapllani signed a two-year contract with regional league club SV Elversberg . With 15 goals in 30 games, he helped the club to the championship in the Regionalliga Südwest . However, the promotion was missed in the relegation games against SpVgg Unterhaching . In the first half of the 2017/18 season , Kapllani only played four games due to adductor problems. As a result of a change in the squad, he was transferred to the reserve team during the winter break. For the 2018/19 season he moved to the league club SV Spielberg , where he also took over the position of assistant coach.

For the 2020/21 season, Kapllani returned to Karlsruher SC to look after the KSC's B junior Bundesliga team as Sirus Motekallemi's assistant coach.

National team

Kapllani debuted on April 28, 2004 during a friendly match against Estonia in the national team of Albania . In qualifying for the 2008 European Championship , he scored his first international goal on June 2, 2007 against Luxembourg . With a total of five goals, three against Luxembourg and one each against Belarus and Romania , he was the most successful scorer in his country in qualifying. Kapllani scored his sixth international goal on August 20, 2008 as part of a friendly against Liechtenstein . Kapllani played his last international match on June 8, 2014 against San Marino . In the successful qualification for the European Championship 2016 he was in the Albanian squad a few times, but did not make any further appearances.
