List of the most successful goal scorers in the 2nd Bundesliga

The list of the most successful goal scorers in the 2nd Bundesliga includes all football players who have scored 100 or more goals since the second top German division was introduced in 1974. It is broken down for all players how many goals they have scored for which club and these are arranged according to their number. The most successful goalscorer is Dieter Schatzschneider , who scored for Hannover 96 and SC Fortuna Köln .

The list contains 16 players, one of whom is currently active in the 2nd Bundesliga .

Note: Any player who was in the squad of a second division team on at least one match day of the current 2018/19 season is considered to be "active" for the purposes of this list .

  • The first player to score 100 goals was Gerd-Volker Schock , who was successful on October 26, 1979 against SG Wattenscheid 09 .
  • The youngest player to score 100 goals is Dieter Schatzschneider , who scored 98 to 100 against Wormatia Worms on November 14, 1981 (age: 23 years and 202 days) . He also needed the fewest second division appearances up to his 100th goal (121 games).
  • 60 goals in away games mean a record for Dieter Schatzschneider, but in home games Karl-Heinz Mödrath struck five times more often than the record shooter with 99 goals.
  • Schatzschneider also has the best goal rate of all players with at least 50 hits with 0.77 goals per game. The most successful goalscorer of all players with a better rate than Schatzschneider is Horst Hrubesch , who scored 42 goals in 35 games (1.20 goals per game).
  • The only player who was able to score at least 100 goals in both the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga is Bruno Labbadia (BL: 103 goals, 2nd BL: 101 goals)
  • Most goals in a game were scored by the later master coach Ottmar Hitzfeld , who scored six times on May 13, 1977 in an 8-0 win against SSV Jahn Regensburg in Stuttgart .
  • Theo Gries scored the most goals since the introduction of the single-track 2. Bundesliga in the 1981/82 season (122 goals).
  • Simon Terodde (3 clubs) got the most top scorer cannons with various clubs , who played at VfL Bochum (2015/16, 25 goals), VfB Stuttgart (2016/17, 25 goals) and 1.FC Köln (2018/19, 29 Goals) became the top scorer.
  • The most successful striker duo in the single-track 2nd Bundesliga came from 1. FC Köln in the 2018/19 season . Simon Terodde (29 hits) and Jhon Córdoba (20 hits) were successful for the club a total of 49 times.
  • Ansgar Brinkmann was the only player in the 2nd Bundesliga to be successful for eight different clubs (he scored a total of 34 second division goals). Sascha Rösler (a total of 86 second division goals ), Karsten Hutwelker (34) and Alexander Löbe (29) met for seven different second division clubs .
