Fabian Klos (born December 2, 1987 in Gifhorn ) is a German soccer player . The striker has been under contract with Arminia Bielefeld since 2011 .

Career

From Meinersen to Wolfsburg

Klos started his career at SV Meinersen . In 2005 he made his debut as an A-youth in the first team that was playing in the Gifhorn regional league. With 45 goals this season he was involved in promotion to the district league. In the 2006/07 district league season, Klos met 29 times and in 2007 switched to MTV Gifhorn , with whom he became champion of the Lower Saxony League East . During his two years at Gifhorn, Klos scored 49 times in 58 games and moved to VfL Wolfsburg in 2009 . Wolfsburg's then assistant coach Bernd Hollerbach advocated the change and Klos signed a contract in Wolfsburg after a conversation with the then head coach of the professional team Felix Magath . Klos ran for Wolfsburg's second team. Curiously, both Hollerbach and Magath had left the club in the meantime.

Between 2009 and 2011, Klos played 65 regional league games and scored 22 goals. With his team he was runner-up in both seasons. High-class clubs took notice of him through his performance and Klos received two offers from the 3rd division , including one from Arminia Bielefeld. His coach at the time in Wolfsburg, Lorenz-Günther Köstner , who once played for Arminia, advised Klos to move to Bielefeld because of the great tradition and the enthusiastic environment. Therefore, Klos moved to Arminia Bielefeld together with Maximilian Ahlschwede in the summer of 2011 . Years later, Klos admitted that he never thought of becoming a professional footballer.

Arminia Bielefeld

He made his debut on July 23, 2011 when he played against the second team of VfB Stuttgart when he came on for Johannes Rahn . At first, toilets still had major problems and often sat on the bench. It was only after Markus von Ahlen changed coach to Stefan Krämer that Klos became a regular player. With ten goals in 33 games he was the most successful goalscorer of his team in the 2011/12 season and played a major role in staying up. At the end of the season he was voted Player of the Year in the 3rd division. In his second season, Klos contributed with his goals to the promotion of Arminia to the 2nd Bundesliga . When the rise was mathematically determined, Klos extended his contract, which was running out at the end of the season, until June 30, 2016 before the last match day. He scored 20 goals in the 2012/13 season , making him top scorer in the 3rd division together with Anton Fink from Chemnitzer FC has been.

On October 4, 2013, Klos collided with his opponent Mohamadou Idrissou in his head against 1. FC Kaiserslautern and suffered a concussion and a fracture of the facial skull with involvement of the forehead and eye socket . The fractures were osteosynthetically treated with plates. He made his comeback on November 22, 2013 when he came on as a substitute for the game against VfL Bochum at half time. With two goals in Bielefeld's 3-2 victory at Dynamo Dresden , Klos prevented the direct relegation of his team. In the following relegation against SV Darmstadt 98 , however, Arminia had to admit defeat and were relegated back to the 3rd division. Despite offers from the 2nd Bundesliga, Klos stayed in Bielefeld because, in his opinion, there was an "insane, positive atmosphere of optimism" in the club.

“After a sleepless night, I spoke to trainer Norbert Meier and manager Samir Arabi the next morning and said: If we manage to build a team that will play for promotion next year, I'll be there. If I screw something up, I want to make up for it. "

- Fabian Klos

For the 2014/15 season , Fabian Klos took over the position of team captain from Thomas Hübener , who had switched to FC Energie Cottbus . During the summer break there was renewed speculation about a club change. Dynamo Dresden tried hard to make a change. However, Klos decided to stay in Bielefeld. The decisive factor was the self-knowledge that he was physically unable to get through Saiben's running-intensive style of play. Klos worked hard on his fitness during the summer break. For the 2017/18 season , Julian Börner was elected as a new team captain. In April 2018, Klos improved the club's record for the most competitive goals.
