Horst Neumann (soccer player)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Horst Neumann (born November 5, 1952 in Hamburg ) is a former German soccer player . The offensive player completed 25 league games with three goals in the 1977/78 season at FC St. Pauli in the Bundesliga . In the 1980/81 season he was the top scorer in the 2nd Bundesliga South (26 goals) when he won the championship in the South season with SV Darmstadt 98 .

Career

Neumann already played in the youth of St. Pauli and for the 1971/72 season joined the squad of the league team of the Braunweiß vom Millerntor, which played in the second-class regional soccer division North . Neumann, who works professionally as a tally man in the port , was a dangerous winger at St. Pauli as a contract and licensed player from 1971 to 1979, including a season in the Bundesliga. He then moved to SV Darmstadt 98 for the 1979/80 season after the DFB refused a license in June 1979, before joining Hannover 96 in 1981 . The striker played 25 games in the Bundesliga (3 goals). In addition, he played 240 second division games (75 goals).

Under coach Edgar "Edu" Preuss , the striker made his debut from his own offspring on March 25, 1972, in a 3-2 home win against VfB Lübeck in the Regionalliga Nord. He stormed on the left winger at the side of the two attackers Walter Dobberkau and Ulrich Schulz . St. Pauli won the championship in the north in 1971/72 and Neumann had played the last six rounds and scored two goals. In the 1972 Bundesliga promotion round, the young attacker then played all eight games and scored two goals. The performance in the promotion round was clearly negatively influenced by the red card for high performer Alfred Hussner in the first group game on May 28, 1972 in a 1-1 draw at Wacker 04 Berlin. Neumann defended the title with St. Pauli in 1973 in the north and was runner-up at the end of the second-rate regional league in 1973/74 . In the three Bundesliga promotion rounds, he scored seven goals in 19 games. The attacker played a total of 65 regional league games in three rounds and scored 13 goals for St. Pauli.

Neumann started in the 2nd Bundesliga with St. Pauli in 1974/75 with 3rd place and rose to the Bundesliga with the title win in 1976/77 . Under coach Diethelm further , he made his debut in the Bundesliga on the start of the round, August 6, 1977 in a 3-1 home win against Werder Bremen. He and Franz Gerber formed the leading edge of the attack. After the first half of the season, the Millerntor team was already in 17th place with 12:22 points and could not get away from the relegation places in the second half. After relegation from the Bundesliga, Neumann scored ten goals in 37 league appearances in the 2nd Bundesliga in 1978/79 and St. Pauli came in 6th. On the way to the second division season finale on June 9, 1979 at Preußen Münster, the team received the bad news of the league committee of the DFB of the license withdrawal of St. Pauli. After a total of 246 competitive games for St. Pauli, Neumann signed a new contract for the 1979/80 season with the previous league competitor SV Darmstadt 98 and switched to the "lilies" from the Böllenfalltor .

In his first year in Darmstadt, the physically robust attacker scored eleven goals in 28 league games under coach Jörg Berger and his new club was fourth. This was a respectable achievement with the departures of top performers like Manfred Drexler , Kurt Eigl and Hans Lindemann . With the other newcomers besides Neumann such as Alfred Seiler , Rudi Collet and Andreas Karow , it seemed that they were on the right track. Under the new coach Werner Olk , the championship in the second division actually succeeded in 1980/81 and thus the return to the Bundesliga. The man from St. Pauli personally crowned this round with 26 goals, leading the scorers list in the southern league ahead of Uwe Bein (25 goals) and Franz Gerber (23 goals).

Neumann did not go into the Bundesliga with Darmstadt, he signed a new contract in the 2nd Bundesliga with Hannover 96 for the 1981/82 season, where his former coach Diethelm Ferner worked. At the end of the round it was enough for 5th place and he had to be content with three goals in 25 league appearances at the side of goal scorer Dieter Schatzschneider . When Trainer Ferner was replaced by Gerhard Bohnsack in November 1982, Neumann's career in the professional field was almost over. The Hamburg resident played his last second division game on September 24, 1983 in a 1: 2 away defeat against 1. FC Saarbrücken. During the current round 1983/84 he moved to SV Lurup and ended his career in the amateur field.
