Uwe Bein (born September 26, 1960 in Lengers ) is a former German soccer player . The 1990 world champion is considered by fans and experts to be one of the best technical midfielders in German football history.
Career
Bein's first clubs were TSV Lengers and VfB Heringen, and his professional career began in 1978 at Kickers Offenbach . From 1984 to 1987 he played for 1. FC Köln , from 1987 to 1989 for Hamburger SV and from 1989 to 1994 for Eintracht Frankfurt . He played a total of 300 Bundesliga games and scored 91 goals.
In 1994 Bein moved to the Japanese professional league, where he was active for the Urawa Red Diamonds until 1996 . In 1997 he gave a guest appearance at VfB Giessen in the major league. From 2002 to 2006 he played for the fifth division club SVA Bad Hersfeld . At the same time, he looked after the youngsters at the Uwe-Bein soccer school . From July 1 to December 23, 2005 he was the manager of Kickers Offenbach.
successes
The greatest success in Bein's career was winning the 1990 World Cup in Italy . He played the three preliminary round matches and the quarterfinals and scored a goal in the preliminary round against the national soccer team of the United Arab Emirates before being sidelined for the rest of the tournament due to injury. He made a total of 17 international appearances in which he scored three goals.
In his most athletic phase, at the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s, he formed a successful midfield with Thomas von Heesen and later with Andreas Möller . In 1986 he reached the final of the UEFA Cup with 1. FC Köln . Here they lost to Real Madrid after two finals.
Bein played for the German championship with Eintracht Frankfurt from 1990 to 1993 , but never won it. In the 1991/92 season he and his team lost the championship on the last day of the match.
After the career
Bein works for the 74 football schools for children and young people operating under the name Kidsactive throughout Germany. In these schools, which were founded by Frank Mill , 62 former professional footballers are now active as practical instructors, including a. Maurizio Gaudino and Michael Schulz .
Honors
Since January 23, 2013, a picture of Uwe Bein has adorned one of the twelve “Pillars of Unity” in the Willy-Brandt-Platz subway station in Frankfurt.
During his active time as a player, Bein was feared by his opponents mainly because of his so-called fatal pass . Even today you can still hear some Eintracht Frankfurt fans saying “The pass was good ” when a player plays the opposing defense with just one pass in a similar manner.
