Maurizio Gaudino [ maʊˈrɪtsi̯o ɡaʊˈdiːno ] (born December 12, 1966 in Brühl ) is a former German football player .
He made a total of 294 Bundesliga games for SV Waldhof Mannheim , VfB Stuttgart , Eintracht Frankfurt and VfL Bochum . With VfB he became German champion in 1992 .
Career
In the club
Gaudino, whose parents immigrated to Germany from the Campania region in Italy , learned to play football at TSG Rheinau and in 1980 moved to Waldhof Mannheim in the B-youth . He played his first game as a professional footballer in 1984. He moved to VfB Stuttgart in 1987, with whom he became German champion in 1992. In 1993 he joined Eintracht Frankfurt. After convincing performance, Berti Vogts appointed him to the German national soccer team for the first time . In 1994 , together with his teammates Anthony Yeboah and Jay-Jay Okocha , he refused special training with Frankfurt head coach Jupp Heynckes and the subsequent Bundesliga game, which resulted in the suspension of Yeboah and Gaudino. After his suspension Gaudino early 1995 for 200,000 was GBP to the English first division side Manchester City on loan; there he came to 21 missions, in which he scored four goals.
After his return to Eintracht, he was awarded again after six months, this time to CF América Ciudad de México . Once again he returned to Frankfurt for one season and played 32 games in the 2nd Bundesliga for Eintracht, which was relegated for the first time, scoring nine goals. In 1997 he moved to FC Basel in the Swiss National League A . After a year he returned to the Bundesliga for one season at VfL Bochum.
He finally moved to the Turkish first division club Antalyaspor in 1999 , where he scored eight goals in 55 games by the end of his career in 2002. Gaudino had a comeback as a player in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg (fourth highest division) in the 2003/04 and 2005/06 seasons at SV Waldhof Mannheim, where he had started his professional career. Previously, he had a short guest appearance at the then Hessian league club Eintracht Wald-Michelbach , but not in a competitive game.
In the national team
During his time at Waldhof, he played six games for the German U-21 national football team , for which he scored two goals. From 1993 to 1994 Gaudino played five international matches for the senior national team . At the football World Cup in the USA in 1994 he was part of the DFB team , but was not used by national coach Berti Vogts .
After retirement
In 2005 Gaudino became sports director at SV Waldhof Mannheim, after having worked there as an interim trainer from November 2004 to January 2005 after Eugen Hach was released from work.
In 2007 he trained the upper division club SG Sonnenhof Großaspach , where he also worked as a supervisor for the agency of the players' agent and Großaspacher patron Uli Ferber.
Gaudino was the sporting director of the upper division club SSV Reutlingen (2015/16 season) and the regional division Wacker Nordhausen (2016/17 season).
Personal
Because insurance fraud with reported as stolen cars 1992/93 the sentenced Mannheim District Court in 1996 to a term of imprisonment of two years, three years suspended on probation . In addition, Gaudino had to pay a fine of 180,000 marks.
Gaudino is the owner of a sports marketing agency. His son Gianluca (* 1996) is also a professional soccer player.
