Ascent
With VfL Bochum and MSV Duisburg, both relegated members of the previous season managed to return directly to the Bundesliga. The license was withdrawn from the third Bundesliga relegated from the previous year, Dynamo Dresden . Dresden therefore played in the regional league in 1995/96. The third climber was Arminia Bielefeld, who made it straight through to the Bundesliga as the previous year’s regional league climber.
descent
The relegated names were Chemnitzer FC, Hannover 96, 1. FC Nürnberg and Wattenscheid 09. For 96 and FCN this meant the first time in their long club history in the third division, which in the case of 96 happened on the 100th birthday of all things.
Top scorer
The best goalscorer of the season was Fritz Walter from Arminia Bielefeld. The former goalscorer of VfB Stuttgart scored 21 goals.
