The 2. Bundesliga 2010/11 was the 37th season of the second highest division in German football. It began on August 20, 2010 and ended on May 15, 2011 with the 34th and final game day. The first matchday in the 3rd division had already been played four weeks earlier .
The relegation games between the 16th of the Bundesliga and the third of the 2nd Bundesliga were played on May 19 and 25, 2011, the games between the 16th of the 2nd Bundesliga and the third of the 3rd division took place on May 20 and 24 2011 took place.
The autumn champions were the promoted FC Erzgebirge Aue on February 1, 2011, when they won the catch-up game on matchday 17 against FSV Frankfurt 3-1 (1-0).
At the end of the season, Hertha BSC managed to gain direct promotion as champions. The FC Augsburg rose in second place for the first time in the Bundesliga on.

Kick-off times
In the 2010/11 season, the individual matches on a match day are usually kicked off as in the previous season:
- Friday at 6:00 p.m. three games
- Two games on Saturday at 1 p.m.
- Three games on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
- A game on Monday at 8:15 p.m.
In addition, there are several exceptions: Immediately after FIFA's release periods for national players (up to six times per season), a Friday game will be played at 6 p.m. on Friday evening at 8:30 p.m.
