Career
society
From Belgium to Turkey
The defensive specialist began his career at the amateur club Alberta Geel. He signed his first professional contract with KFC Verbroedering Geel . He later played for Lierse SK , where he won the Belgian Cup in 1999. His subsequent engagement at the Turkish club Gençlerbirliği Ankara was Daem's first career stop abroad.
Daems at Borussia Mönchengladbach
In January 2005 Daems moved to the German Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach after three and a half years in Turkey . On January 29, 2005, he made his debut for the club from Niederrhein in the 2004/05 season on matchday 19 against Borussia Dortmund in the starting eleven, to be substituted after 53 minutes. Because of a serious heel injury Daems did not play a game for Borussia in the 2006/07 season. On September 7, 2007, he made his comeback after a one-year break in a friendly game. The Belgian has been a regular since then. He mainly played in the position of the left full-back , sometimes also in the central defense . With Mönchengladbach he succeeded in the immediate relegation to the first division after relegation. Daems has been the captain of his team since January 2009. His contract ran until June 30, 2015. Until the 2010/11 season, Daems played with Gladbach either against relegation or in the lower third. In 2011/12, the Flemish competed with the "foals" trained by Lucien Favre for participation in an international competition. The season ended in fourth place in the table, which was equivalent to participating in qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. Daems was used 31 times and scored three hits.
Return to Belgium
After Borussia Mönchengladbach did not renew their contract with Daems after ten years, he moved to the Belgian first division club KVC Westerlo for the 2015/16 season . On December 5, 2015, Daems scored his first goal for his club in the 5-1 loss to Oud-Heverlee Löwen . He ended his active career in the summer of 2017.
National team
Daems was called up for twelve international matches in the Belgian national football team between 1999 and 2009 . He made his debut when he was called up for the second time on March 31, 2004 in a 3-0 defeat at Sportpark Müngersdorf in Cologne against Germany . He completed his other six assignments between 2008 and 2009.
