The Lierse SK ( Dutch Koninklijke Lierse Sportkring ) was a Belgian football club from Lier in the province of Antwerp, which was founded on March 6, 1906. The club colors are yellow and black. The club plays its home games at the Herman Vanderpoorten Stadium . The stadium has a capacity of 15,500 seats (10,200 seats, 5,300 standing places). The club won the Belgian championship four times, in 1940 and 1941 they also came first in an unofficial championship round. The club was bought and redeemed by Egyptian businessman Maged Samy , who also owns the Wadi Degla Sporting Club in Egypt. The fans, like the residents of the city of Lier, are called Schapenkoppen (sheep's heads). This goes back to a legend from the 15th century, as a result of which the city got a stacking right for cattle.
The club's record international player is Bernard Voorhoof with 61 appearances for Belgium, all in Lierse. With 30 goals he is the top scorer of the Belgian national football team together with Paul Van Himst. On May 9, 2018, the association filed for bankruptcy and was re-established as Koninklijke Lyra-Lierse Berlaar after merging with Koninklijke Lyra TSV at senior level . The reserve department merged with KFC Ooster Zonen Oosterwijk to form Lierse Kempenzonen , which played its home games in the Herman Vanderpoorten Stadium.
