Dragan Mrđa ( Serbian - Cyrillic Драган Мрђа , UEFA spelling Dragan Mrdja , born January 23, 1984 in Vršac ) is a Serbian football player .
Career
Mrđa began his career at FK Red Star Belgrade , where he joined the first team in 2002. In Belgrade , he also made his debut in the UEFA Cup . Mrđa came on as a substitute for Dragan Bogavac in the 2003/04 season when Red Star played against Odense BK in the 77th minute. The game ended 4: 3 for Red Star. During his time at Red Star, he won the Serbian Championship (2004) and the Serbian Cup (2004).
After his success at home, Mrđa moved to Belgium to Lierse SK in January 2006 , but was not happy there. In autumn 2006 he went on loan within Belgium's first division to SV Zulte Waregem , where he was active in the UEFA Cup . After another half-season at Waregem Mrđa played at the end of the 2006/07 season at the U-21 European Football Championship . With Serbia he made it to the final, which they lost to the Netherlands with 1: 4. In the final he was able to achieve the goal to 1: 3, where he was only substituted in the 73rd minute for Đorđe Rakić . In another three games Mrdja was used and scored another goal.
After this success, the striker went to Russia in 2007 and signed a contract with FK Khimki . With only nine games in the Premjer Liga and two goals, he returned to his homeland Serbia back to FK Vojvodina Novi Sad at the beginning of the 2008/09 season .
Internationally, he played a total of eight times for the Serbian U-21s and scored three goals. In 2008 he made his senior team debut and scored two goals against Japan in his third international match .
After he was the top scorer at FK Vojvodina Novi Sad in the 2009/10 championship season with 22 goals and was also voted best player of the 2010 season, many European clubs were interested in the now Serbian international. Offers from France, Spain, Switzerland, Greece and Austria were on the table.
On August 12, 2010 he signed a three-year contract with FC Sion . For the Valais, he should make up for the departure of top scorer Emile Mpenza and help the traditional club to play on the European stage again in the future after they narrowly failed to achieve this goal in the previous championship after regular participations. However, his cruciate ligament tore on November 12, 2011 in the international match against Mexico, which led to a prolonged failure.
