Arouna Koné (born November 11, 1983 in Anyama , Ivory Coast ) is an Ivorian football player who also plays for the Ivory Coast national team.

Career

Koné began his career at the local club Rio Sport d'Ányama , which he helped to promote to the first division. He was appointed to the professional squad at the age of 17. The RC Lens invited him for a trial session, but he could not prevail and then played for Lierse SK in Belgium . After one season he moved to Roda Kerkrade in the neighboring country of the Netherlands in 2003 . There he was able to convince and was transferred to PSV Eindhoven for the 2005/06 season . Due to his strong performance at the 2006 African Cup of Nations in Egypt for his home country, Ivory Coast, he was nominated for the World Cup finals. After two strong years in Eindhoven, Sevilla FC brought him to Spain .

On February 1, 2010 Hannover 96 announced its commitment on loan until the end of the season. Due to injuries, however, he only played eight games for 96. With two goals during this time, he could not convince to such an extent that a commitment after the end of the loan period for the Lower Saxony would have come into question.

For the 2011/12 season , Koné was loaned to Levante UD . After scoring 15 goals in 34 league games, Levante pulled the purchase option in early July 2012. A month later, however, Koné moved to the English first division club Wigan Athletic for a transfer fee of 3.8 million euros . He signed a three-year contract until the end of June 2015. In the 2012/13 season , Koné was the best scorer in his team with eleven goals in 34 appearances. In May 2013 he won the FA Cup with Wigan Athletic by beating Manchester City 1-0 in the final . At the end of the season, however, the club was relegated to the Football League Championship . Then Koné joined the 2013/14 season for Everton and signed a three-year contract until June 2016th

For the 2017/18 season he moved to the Turkish first division club Sivasspor .

Private

Koné is the brother of Bakari Koné , who currently plays for the Qatari first division club Lekhwiya . Together they took part in the 2006 World Cup. Another brother, Kemoko, currently plays for the reserve team at Arouna's former club Roda Kerkrade.
