Árni Gautur Arason (born May 7, 1975 in Reykjavík ) is a former Icelandic football goalkeeper who is now a lawyer (graduate of the University of Iceland ) in his home country.
Career
Club career
After three years in the 1st Deild , Árni Gautur switched to the then Norwegian champion Rosenborg Trondheim in 1998 , where he stayed for five years and won the championship title of the Tippeligaen every season . In 2000 he was awarded the Kniksenprisen award as the best goalkeeper in the Tippeligaen. In 2003 Manchester City brought him to replace David James , but Árni Gautur only appeared twice in the FA Cup . After this season he moved to Vålerenga Oslo , where he stayed for three years and in 2005 became Norwegian champions for the sixth time. In March 2008, Árni Gautur moved to South Africa to Thanda Royal Zulu , and in the summer of the same year he returned to Norway to the Odd Grenland club . There he worked mostly as a regular until 2010 and then ended his career at the Belgian club Lierse SK , where he made two league appearances in 2011 before ending his career as an active player.
National team career
He gained his first international experience with the Icelandic U-17 national team , with whom he played ten internationals from 1990 to 1991. Another three international appearances followed in 1992 with Iceland's U-19s . Between 1995 and 1997 he played in eleven games for the Icelandic U-21 national team. Árni Gautur Arason played his first international match for Iceland in 1998 in a friendly against Latvia , which Iceland won 4-1. With 71 internationals for his home country, he and Arnar Grétarsson are 9th among the Icelandic internationals with the most international appearances. Árni Gautur was still a member of the Icelandic national team until 2010, but from 2008 he only played friendlies for them.
