Bernard Voorhoof (born May 10, 1910 in Lier , Antwerp province , † February 18, 1974 ibid) was a Belgian football player on the position of a striker . He took part in the first three football world championships and was the record scorer of the Belgian national team with 30 goals from 68 international matches until November 14, 2017 (31st goal in Romelu Lukaku's national team) . In the top Belgian league, the striker scored 281 goals in 473 games between 1927 and 1948.

Voorhoof started playing soccer at the age of 13 in his hometown at Lierse SK . He stayed with Lierse until 1926, when he moved within Liers, initially under a false name, to TSV Lyra , as he was not provided with football boots or jerseys at Lierse SK.

After a year he returned to the LSK and remained loyal to the club until 1948. On October 16, 1927 he made his debut in the top Belgian league . In his first season he came to a total of 20 missions and scored eleven goals, which led to his first appearance in the Belgian national team in April 1928 . In the game against France he contributed a goal in the 3-2 win, but was still not taken into account for the Olympic Games in the same year.

A year later he was able to establish himself in the national team and was nominated for the first World Cup in Uruguay. But after the three-week voyage from Europe to South America, Voorhoof was several kilograms overweight and could not call up his performance. In this tournament he was only used in the first game against the USA (0: 3) and was not used for the second game.

In the Belgian league he won his first championship with Lier in 1932. Two years later he was nominated again for the world championship. Since the 1934 tournament was played in a pure knockout system, it was only used once. Belgium lost the round of 16 against the German team 2-5, but scored both goals for his team . Also in 1938 Voorhoof was in the Belgian squad and was also used here in the first round against France (1: 3). Voorhoof was one of the few players who took part in the first three world championships and was used in each of them.

In 1940 his national team career ended with the Second World War. In 61 games he scored 30 goals, a figure that so far only Paul Van Himst was able to achieve, but who needed 81 international matches for the same number of goals.

In the league, meanwhile, he won the Belgian championship three times in a row (1932, 1941 (unofficial) and 1942) with the Lierse SK, although the two titles in 1940 and 1941 are only unofficially classified as championships due to the chaos of war.

After the 1947/1948 season, Lier had to go to the second Belgian division and Voorhoof left the club after 21 years and 281 goals in 473 games. He finally played one last, rather unsuccessful, season as a player-coach at the third division Racing FC Montegnée . There he had 14 goals in 30 league games. His last coaching position was FC Herentals , which he led to the championship in the 3rd division.

He died at the age of 63 in his birthplace.
