This article covers the Belgian national team at the 1934 World Cup .

qualification

In the qualifying round, the Belgian team had to face the Netherlands and Ireland in Group 7 . After they played a 4: 4 draw against Ireland on February 25, 1934 away in Dublin , on April 28, 1934 they lost 4: 4 at home to the Netherlands in Antwerp . In both games, the Belgians violated the rules, as injured players were substituted on both occasions without the official rules of the game providing for such a substitution. However, the results were not canceled.

Since Ireland had previously lost 5-2 to the Netherlands, both teams stayed with just one point in the group and the goal difference decided. Belgium had conceded one less goal in their defeat by the Netherlands and because of that small difference they happily qualified for the finals of the World Cup ahead of Ireland .
