To qualify for the finals of the World Cup , the Egyptian team only had to prevail against the Palestine team after Turkey had renounced an originally planned participation.
The first leg on March 16, 1934 in Cairo ended with a clear 7-1 victory for the Egyptians, who just under a month later, on April 6, 1934 in Jerusalem, were clearly superior with a 4-1 result. The Egyptian team was the winner of qualification group 12 and thus the only representative of Africa and Asia.

In the encounter, which was played in front of 10,000 spectators, the Hungarians took the lead 2-0 in the first half thanks to goals from Pál Teleki and Géza Toldi in the 9th and 25th minute, before Abdel-Rahman Fawzi scored in the 27th minute could achieve. Two more Hungarian goals by Jenö Vincze in the 54th and again by Toldi in the 61st minute, however, led to the preliminary decision at the beginning of the second half, so that the renewed goal in the 67th minute by Fawzi could not turn the game around . The first world championship final round game of the Egyptian selection ended with a 2-4 defeat; despite a respectable performance, the team was eliminated from the tournament.
