Géza Toldi

Géza Toldi , also Géza Tunigold , (born February 11, 1909 in Budapest , Austria-Hungary , † August 16, 1985 in Budapest , Hungary ) was a Hungarian football player and football coach .

Club career

Toldi began his career in the Hungarian league in the 1927/28 season when he was first used by coach István Tóth-Potya in the fighting team of the Ferencvárosi Torna Club . At that time, the Franzensstädter had built a strong young team with players like Vilmos Kohut and Márton Bukovi and were able to achieve the third championship title in a row and the cup victory this season. In the course of the following two seasons, Toldi managed to establish himself in the team and to conquer a regular place, which he should hold until 1939.

During this period, the FTC achieved three more championship titles and three cup wins with a series of storms in which Toldi and György Sárosi complemented each other very well. In the 1933/34 season Toldi was the Hungarian top scorer with 27 goals . After the final in the Mitropacup had been lost in 1935 , there was also a great international success in the 1937 competition , when the SS Lazio was defeated in the final with an overall score of 9: 6. Toldi contributed to success in both finals with one goal each.

In 1939 he left his home club and moved to league competitor Gamma Budatok , where he played one season before going to Szegedi AK for two more years . In 1942 he returned to the FTC for one season, where he won another cup before ending his career at Madisz Danubia after the war ended. He played a total of 324 league games in which he scored 271 goals.

National team

The striker made his first appearance in the national team in April 1929 against Switzerland , where he immediately scored a goal in a 5-4 victory. In the following years he was part of the team's tribe and was also taken to the 1934 World Cup , where he scored two goals against Egypt in the round of 16 before losing to Austria one round later .

At the (canceled) European Cup of National Football Teams from 1936 to 1938 , Toldi finished second in the scorers list with five goals behind his club colleague Sárosi. At the Football World Cup in 1938 he was back in the squad and came to two missions, where he scored a goal against the Dutch East Indies , in the final, however, Jenő Vincze was used in his place . Toldi played his last game in the national team in 1940 against Romania . In total, he came to 46 missions and 25 hits for Hungary.

Coaching career

The first coaching station of the Hungarians was the Vasa IFK in Finland, which he led to the championship title. In 1950 he moved to Denmark, where he initially looked after the Odense Boldklub before accepting an offer from the Aarhus GF in 1954 . He led the team to the first two championship titles in club history and to a cup win. In 1957 he took over the coaching position with the Belgian national team , where he only worked for seven months. He then looked after the Belgian first division club Berchem Sport for two years before he returned to Aarhus in 1960 and won another championship title and two cups with the Danes. Other coaching stations in Denmark included the Boldklubben 1909 and IK Skovbakken , before he ended his career in the mid-1970s.
