Constant Vanden Stock

Constant Vanden Stock (born June 13, 1914 in Anderlecht , † April 19, 2008 in Ukkel ) was a Belgian entrepreneur, football player and official. He gained fame in sport primarily as the manager in charge of the Belgian national team and a long-time player, president and honorary president of RSC Anderlecht .

biography

Vanden Stock played in the youth team of RSC Anderlecht at the age of ten. At 14, he left school to work in his parents' cafe and brewery. In 1932 he made the jump to the first team of the RSC, with which the defender was promoted to the first division in 1935, in which Anderlecht is still today. Before the Second World War, he moved to the Brussels suburb Union Saint-Gilloise , where he ended his active career in 1943 after five years.

After his father was deported to a concentration camp by the German National Socialists , he ran the Belle Vue brewery, which he made into one of the top-selling Belgium through clever investments and taking over smaller competitors. After the war he became president of the Vorster Club RCS La Forestoise .

From 1958 to 1968 he was Sélectionneur of the Belgian national team. After a year as an official at Club Bruges , he took over the presidency of RSC Anderlecht in 1971, which he held for 25 years. When he returned to his youth club, it was in financial trouble; Vanden Stock turned the RSC into a top Belgian and European club - his presidency includes ten Belgian championships, seven Belgian cup wins and five European titles.

In 1991 he sold the brewery to Interbrew ; as president of RSC Anderlecht he was replaced in 1996 by his son Roger ; However, he stayed with the club as honorary president until his death at the age of 93.

Honors

The RSC Anderlecht stadium was named after him in 1983.
