qualification

Italy, despite hosting, had to qualify in Group 3 . After a 4-0 win in the first leg against Greece on March 25, 1934 , they withdrew their application for a cash payment worth 300,000 euros today, so that the Italians could concentrate on their preparation after the clear victory and not on the second leg to Greece had to travel. The Azzurri were thus qualified without any further encounter.

Italian team matches

After a relaxed opening win 7-1 against the USA , the Italians trembled in the quarter-finals against Spain , in which a replay had to be scheduled, into the semifinals.

After 1: 1 or 1: 0 in the quarter-finals, there was a 1-0 win against Austria in the semi-finals until the game on June 10, 1934, which went down in World Cup history as the drama of Rome . After a temporary lead by Czechoslovakia (76th), Italy equalized through Orsi (81st), to achieve the final score in the 96th minute in extra time through Schiavio.
