Semifinals

Until the semi-finals, Italy relied on Schillaci goals and a strong defense. Caniggia was the first to beat Walter Zenga with a header. The defending champions Argentina had a penalty killer named Sergio Goycochea in the penalty shoot-out , who had already ensured that Argentina could advance to the semi-finals.
