Career

Club career

José Serrizuela, born in 1962, started playing football for CA Los Andes from the province of Buenos Aires . There the defender acted for four years from 1980 to 1984, before he was signed by the somewhat larger club Rosario Central , which has now slipped into the second division . In the jersey of Rosario Central Serrizuela made 41 league games in the framework of the second Argentine football league, scored seven goals and helped his team to return directly to the Primera División after the 1980 champions were surprisingly relegated the previous year. After promotion, Serrizuela left Rosario Central and missed the big hit that the team of coach Ángel Tulio Zof succeeded in winning the Argentine championship the following year.

José Serrizuela instead joined CA Lanús , only to move on to Racing de Córdoba just a year later , where he played football for two years from 1986 to 1988 and made 74 games in the top Argentinian football league for the now-insignificant club. In 1988 he changed employers again and went to River Plate , where he was again under contract for two years. Under coach Daniel Passarella , the team around players such as Sergio Batista , Héctor Enrique or Gabriel Batistuta managed to win the Argentine football championship in the 1989/90 season by taking first place with seven points ahead of CA Independiente .

After two years and 45 league games for River Plate, José Serrizuela left the club in the summer of 1990 and went to Mexico , where he played in succession for Cruz Azul and CD Veracruz in 1990 and 1991 . After a one-year engagement with CA Huracán , he played for Independiente Avellaneda from 1993. In the jersey of the record champion in the Copa Libertadores , José Serrizuela managed his second championship win in Argentina, in the Clausura 1994 they were first one point ahead of Huracán. As a result, Serrizuela played until 1996 at Independiente, but without being able to win more titles. He then went to local rivals Racing Club to move to CA Talleres a year later , where he won the second division and three more years later to end his career at the age of 38 in his home club CA Los Andes.

National team

Between 1989 and 1990, José Serrizuela played a total of eight international matches in the Argentine national football team . From national coach Dr. Carlos Bilardo was appointed to the South American squad for the 1990 World Cup in Italy . The defender of River Plate was used in seven tournament games of his team and showed in both the quarter-finals and the semi-finals as a sure penalty taker. In the two games against Yugoslavia and hosts Italy won in this mode, Serrizuela pocketed his penalty and thus contributed directly to progress. He was also used in the final against Germany , but this was lost 0-1. After the final in Rome , José Serrizuela's short national team career also ended.
