Andrea Alessandro Carnevale (born January 12, 1961 in Monte San Biagio ) is a former Italian football player .

Career

The massive center forward Andrea Carnevale began his professional career with various lower-class clubs in Italy in the early 1980s. It was not until he moved in 1984 to Udinese Calcio he made his breakthrough in the Serie A . From 1986 to 1990 Carnevale played with Diego Maradona at SSC Napoli , where he celebrated his greatest successes and became an Italian international . In 1989 he won the UEFA Cup with Napoli in the final against VfB Stuttgart . At the beginning of the World Cup in 1990 , he seemed to be the attack partner of Gianluca Vialli in the attack of the Italians. However, when he was substituted in two preliminary round games against Salvatore Schillaci , he was no longer used in the other games. Schillaci was the new hero of the Italians and became the top scorer of the World Cup. After the World Cup, Andrea Carnevale moved to AS Roma , where he and his teammate Angelo Peruzzi tested positive for phentermine at the beginning of the season and was banned for one year for doping . From 1993 to 1996 he let his career fade away alternately with the clubs Udinese Calcio and Pescara Calcio .

Since 2010 he has been working as chief scout for his former club Udinese Calcio.
