Nicola Berti (born April 14, 1967 in Salsomaggiore Terme near Parma ) is a former Italian football player .

Career

Nicola Berti was a midfielder and member of the legendary Inter team led by coach Giovanni Trapattoni , which won the Scudetto , the Italian championship title, in the 1988/89 season. He played a total of 311 games for the Nerazzurri and scored 41 goals. During this time he played with players like Walter Zenga , Giuseppe Bergomi , Andreas Brehme , Lothar Matthäus , Jürgen Klinsmann and later Youri Djorkaeff , Diego Simeone and Ronaldo . He also won the UEFA Cup with Inter Milan in 1990/91 , 1993/94 and 1997/98 . In the finals 1990/91 and 1993/94 he scored. Before joining Inter Milan, he played at Fiorentina and Parma . After leaving Inter, he played in England for Tottenham Hotspur , in Spain for Deportivo Alavés and Australia for Northern Spirit FC .

For the Italian national football team , he played a total of 39 international matches between 1988 and 1995, in which he scored three goals. He participated in the World Championships in 1990 in his home country and in 1994 in the USA. In 1990 he was substituted on in the game for third place against England and scored 3-1 in stoppage time. This goal was revoked as part of a blatantly wrong decision. In 1994 he took part in several games - mostly as a substitute.
