Career as a coach
Walter Zenga has been working as a football coach since the end of his career. He moved to Romania in 2002 , where he initially took over FC Național Bucharest for two years. After a place in midfield at the end of the 2002/03 season and reaching the Romanian Cup final (0-1 against Dinamo Bucharest ), however, he was dismissed after a false start in the following season in September 2003. It was followed by Steaua Bucharest in the 2004/05 season , where he had to leave early in May 2005 despite leading the table. He then trained FK Red Star Belgrade , with whom he won the 2006 double in Serbia . At the beginning of the 2006-2007 season he coached Gaziantepspor in Turkey, but moved to the United Arab Emirates after the first half of the season. From the beginning of 2007 Zenga trained the Al Ain Club there .
On September 5, 2007 he signed a two-year contract with Dinamo Bucharest , but had to resign on November 25, 2007. In April 2008, Zenga took over the post of coach at the Italian club Catania Calcio . In June 2009, the Sicilian local rival US Palermo announced that Zenga had signed a 2-year contract with the option of a third season with the Pink Blacks.
He spent the years 2010 to 2014 again on the Arabian Peninsula , where he trained al-Nasr in Saudi Arabia and the Al-Nasr Sports Club and the al-Jazira Club in the United Arab Emirates .
For the 2015/16 season , Zenga took over the Italian first division club Sampdoria Genua , but was released in November 2015 after a moderate start to the season. At the end of the month, Zenga found a new employer, he was hired again in the United Arab Emirates and coached Al-Shaab , bottom of the table in the UAE Arabian Gulf League , with which he signed a six-month contract. After nine defeats and only four points in eleven games, Zenga and Al-Shaab parted ways in February 2016. From July to November 2016, Zenga coached the English second division side Wolverhampton Wanderers . On December 8, 2017, he followed the retiring Davide Nicola as head coach of FC Crotone in the Italian Serie A .
