The Best - FIFA World Goalkeeper

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FIFA World Goalkeeper is an award given annually by the world association FIFA to the best football goalkeeper . It has been awarded since 2017 and is part of The Best FIFA Football Awards . Previously, the best goalkeeper was not officially recognized, only the appointment to FIFA FIFPro World XI could be seen as a comparable award. In 2019, Sari van Veenendaal became the first FIFA world goalkeeper to be awarded.

In the past, the goalkeepers who received the unofficial award from the IFFHS organization were mostly referred to as world goalkeepers (see award winners there).

Election mode

The award is based on the performance and behavior of the players on and off the pitch. A panel of experts made up of former goalkeepers and strikers selects the winner from a list of nominees.
