The Bomin-Haus is a high-rise building in Bochum and the seat of the Deutsche Rentenversicherung Knappschaft-Bahn-See . It has 20 floors and was opened in 1975 .

Designed by the architectural office Roman Reiser , it still impresses today with its glass facade, executed by Feldhaus window and facade construction . The Europa House (1961–1962) in Bochum was also designed by Reiser .

Bomin stands for Bochumer Mineralölgesellschaft . It was the largest European oil company privately owned by Herbert Schnapka and went bankrupt in 1983.

The former miners' union was initially a tenant and later bought the house. On the occasion of the 750th anniversary of the mining insurance company, the building was given Knappschaftstrasse 1 as a new address by the city of Bochum in 2010 .

Redevelopment

In the years from 2013 to 2016 the facade was completely renovated. The complete facade elements of the dilapidated 40-year-old outer skin were exchanged floor by floor from bottom to top. The new parts, which are several square meters in size, consist of gas-filled double glass, aluminum and glass fiber wool. This brings better insulation, insulation and also more favorable light reflection. The appearance of the house has changed as a result.
