Herbert Schnapka (born July 16, 1911 in Hindenburg / Upper Silesia , † April 18, 2003 in Bochum ) was a German industrialist and patron of equestrian sports .

Life

He studied economics in Breslau and Berlin before working at Rhenania-Ossag - a forerunner of the German Shell  . After the Second World War he became a partner in the Bochum chemical and trading office before he founded the Bochum mineral oil company (BOMIN), which specializes in trading in Russian oil .

He discovered his love for horses when he started riding on his parents' farm in 1927. Schnapka later ran the Nehmten Stud near Plön , which had up to 150 horses at the best of times, as well as the Ferrans Stud Farm near Kilcock in Ireland. His horses were ridden by Paul Schockemöhle , Hermann Schridde , Gerd Wiltfang and Hartwig Steenken , among others ; many German Olympic champions and the world champion horse Simona ridden by Steenken came from the Nehmter stables.

Even after the dissolution of BOMIN, Dr. Herbert Schnapka, as Pakistani consul general, had an office on Königsallee in Düsseldorf until shortly before his death . He died at the age of 91.
