history

The association was founded in 1923 and participated in the Terza Divisione in the first few years after it was founded . In 1931 he was promoted to the Seconda Divisione for the first time . In the 1940s and 50s, the club managed to establish itself in Serie C , the third highest Italian division, and to play continuously in the same league except for a brief relegation to the Prima Divisione. In 1956, the team from San Benedetto del Tronto won the Serie C championship and was then allowed to compete in Serie B for the first time in the club's history . After relegation could be achieved for six years in a row, the team had to relegate back to the third-tier Serie C at the end of the 1962/63 season as the second from bottom of the league. The club then placed in the following ten years each among the top ten teams in the league, but failed several times just to get promoted again. After having reached third place three times in four years, the team was able to qualify for Serie B again in 1974 as first place. There followed many mediocre seasons in Italy's second-highest league.

Only in 1989 followed with the following relegation to the C1 series, a further setback, a year later the team could not hold the class and slipped one league lower. After the direct return to the C1 series, Sambenedettese was able to win his first trophy in the club's history in 1992. The team won the Coppa Italia Semiprofessionisti . In two games, AC Siena was defeated with a total score of 3-2 goals and the trophy was won. The following years were the most difficult in the club's history. In 1994 the club was refused its license due to its insolvency and was sentenced for the first time to relegation to the Campionato Eccellenza , the second highest amateur league. The club then changed its name to AS Sambenedettese Calcio .

The team spent seven years in the amateur camp, and in 2001 they achieved a promotion to the C2 series. Only a year later, the next promotion could be achieved by winning the league. The team was able to play for the top places in Serie C1, but lost in the play-offs for promotion to Serie B in 2003 against Pescara Calcio and in 2005 against SSC Napoli . A year later the bankruptcy of the club became known again, but he was allowed to remain in the third highest league for the time being after deducting six points. In the 2008/09 season the team rose both athletically and financially. The 16th place in the championship in the league, now renamed Lega Pro Prima Divisione , was not enough to keep the league, in the play-outs the team lost to Calcio Lecco .

The over-indebted club was again not granted a license and had to relegate to the amateur camp due to financial difficulties. After the 2009-10 season, managed First prize of Eccellenza Marche to rise again in the Series D .
