Francesco Guidolin (born October 3, 1955 in Castelfranco Veneto ) is a former Italian football player and current coach .

Career

Francesco Guidolin first played for Hellas Verona , then was loaned to FC Bologna , among others . Overall, however, he returned to Hellas Verona three times. He ended his career in 1986 with AC Venice .

Then he got into the coaching business. He initially coached clubs such as FC Empoli or Atalanta Bergamo . He worked very successfully as coach of Vicenza Calcio from 1994 to 1998. In the 1996/97 season he won the Coppa Italia as coach , the club's only title at all. A longer station as a coach was also the FC Bologna (1999-2003). In these four years Bologna did not rise again in the Serie B from.

After leaving Bologna FC, he coached US Palermo from January 2004 to June 2005 . There he rose to Serie A in 2004 and immediately reached the UEFA Cup . He then announced his move to CFC Genoa . Genoa FC had previously been promoted to Serie A. However, the club was sentenced to relegation to the third division due to match-fixing and Guidolin quit his job without having played a single game as a coach. In October 2005, Guidolin finally became the coach of the French first division club AS Monaco . For the 2006/07 season he returned to Italy for US Palermo. There he was released on April 23, 2007 after a series of eleven games without a win. Only a few weeks later, however, Palermo brought him back and Guidolin was able to secure participation in the UEFA Cup. After the end of the season he resigned from his position. After a commitment by Guidolin with the Queens Park Rangers for personal reasons, Guidolin took over on November 26, 2007 for the fourth time as a coach at US Palermo. On March 24, 2008, he was released again and replaced by his predecessor Stefano Colantuono .

After the end of his fourth engagement in Palermo, he moved in 2008 to the Serie B relegated Parma FC . In 2009, however, he managed to rise again with Parma and he made eighth place in the table with the club in Serie A 2009/10 . In 2010, FC Parma and Udinese Calcio swapped coaches. With this exchange, Guidolin moved to Udine in 2010 . After a bad start with Udinese, he finished fourth at the end of the 2010/11 season and qualified for the UEFA Champions League . However, Udinese failed in qualifying at Arsenal FC and had to go to the UEFA Europa League . In the following season Udinese even reached third place in the table despite a few player sales and qualified again for the Champions League qualification. There they were defeated by the Portuguese first division club Sporting Braga on penalties.

On January 18, 2016, Swansea City made Guidolin the new head coach. After the bad start of the 2016/17 season , he was released on October 3, 2016 and replaced by Bob Bradley .
