In a national comparison within Italy, Inter Milan is ahead with a total of 1,130,191 spectators in nineteen home games, which equates to an average of 59,484 spectators per game. In second place is local rival AC Milan , the Italian soccer champions from 2010/11 attracted an average of 53,916 people to the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium at home . In third place is the SSC Napoli , which was able to mobilize an average of 45,257 people to watch the home games at the Stadio San Paolo .
Overall, however, there was a further decline in the number of viewers in Serie A, in the 2009/10 season of the previous year , 9,607,334 people attended the top division games, which meant a decrease of around five hundred thousand viewers. Many Serie A stadiums could not even have a load factor of fifty percent; in Lecce, for example, an average of only 9,516 spectators attended the matches in the Stadio Via del Mare , which is actually designed for 33,876 spectators. This corresponds to a utilization of just thirty percent. The situation was similar in Bari , Udine and Verona .
At the continental level, the Italian elite league was, as in previous years, fourth behind the other three major leagues. At the top of this table is the German Bundesliga with an average attendance of 42,663 stadium guests per game, with an average of seven thousand people ahead of the Premier League . Serie A is in fourth place behind the Spanish Primera División , which attracted an average of four thousand more spectators per game than Serie A.
