Lazio fan killed by police

On the morning of November 11, 2007, 26-year-old Lazio fan Gabriele Sandri, a DJ from Rome, was shot dead by a police officer. The police had previously become aware of a dispute that took place between supporters of Juventus Turin and Lazio Rome at a rest stop near Badia al Pino in Arezzo on the A1 motorway . The first reports assumed that the bullet was a stray. The bullet hit the Lazio fan sitting in the car in the neck, who then succumbed to his injuries. A meeting between league president Antonio Matarrese and police chief Antonio Manganelli determined that the game between Inter Milan and Lazio Rome was canceled, the other games, however, took place as planned, but with a 10-minute delay. During the games, the players and referees wore mourning ribbons. The game between Atalanta Bergamo and AC Milan had to be canceled after just seven minutes due to fan riots. As a result, the AS Roma game against US Cagliari was canceled. The policeman later testified, "I first fired a warning shot in the air, the second shot came off while I was running." The policeman also insisted that he hadn't aimed at anyone. The dead man's brother, on the other hand, charged the police with murder.

The last few weeks for the championship

In the 2007/08 season, the Italian championship title was still to be had until the last day of the match, after Inter Milan and their coach Roberto Mancini reduced a ten-point lead over AS Roma to one point. So it came on the last day of the long-distance final of the two teams in games against Catania Calcio and FC Parma . Fans of both teams were banned from attending the games to prevent rioting. In the end, Inter Milan secured the championship with a 2-0 win, with a brace in the second half from Zlatan Ibrahimović , who celebrated his comeback after a long injury break. AS Roma, on the other hand, did not get beyond a 1: 1 at Catania Calcio. Catania Calcio did not have to relegate to Serie B due to this draw .
