The Scottish Premier League was staged for the tenth time in 2007/08 . It was also the 111th edition of the highest soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. In the 2007/08 season, 12 clubs competed against each other in a total of 38 matchdays. Each team played three times against each other team, making a total of 33 games. After that, the league was divided into two halves, in which the teams play against each other again. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .
Celtic Glasgow won the Scottish Championship for the 42nd time in the club's history. The Bhoys qualified as champions for the 2008/09 Champions League season . Runner-up Glasgow Rangers also played in the Champions League because of Scotland's improved position in the UEFA five-year standings . The defeated cup finalists Queen of the South , as well as the third-placed FC Motherwell qualified for the UEFA Cup . At the end of the season, FC Gretna was relegated to the First Division . In June, the club filed for bankruptcy, which meant their exit from the Scottish Football League. Scott McDonald of Celtic Glasgow was the top scorer with 25 goals .
