The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 49th time in 1948/49 . It was also the 52nd edition of the top soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 14, 1948 and ended on April 30, 1949. In the 1948/49 season, 16 clubs competed against each other in a total of 30 game days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The championship won for the 26th time in their club history, the Glasgow Rangers . Morton and the Albion Rovers were relegated to Division Two at the end of the season . The top scorer was Alex Stott from Dundee FC with 30 goals .
