The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 39th time in 1931/32 . It was also the 42nd edition of the top soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 8, 1931 and ended on April 30, 1932. In the 1931/32 season, 20 clubs competed against each other in a total of 38 matchdays. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The championship won for the first and so far only time in the club's history of Motherwell FC . Dundee United and Leith Athletic were relegated to Division Two at the end of the season . The top scorer was Willie MacFadyen of FC Motherwell with 52 goals .
