Premier League 2007/08

The Scottish Premier League was played for the eleventh time in 2008/09 . It was also the 112th edition of the highest soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. In the 2008/09 season, 12 clubs competed against each other in a total of 38 matchdays. Each team played once at home and away against every other team in the first round. After that, the league was divided into two halves, in which the teams play against each other again. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .

The Glasgow Rangers won the Scottish Championship for the 52nd time in the club's history. The Rangers qualified as champions for the 2009/10 Champions League season . Runner-up Celtic Glasgow also played in the Champions League because of Scotland's improved position in the UEFA five-year standings . The defeated cup finalist FC Falkirk , as well as the third-placed Heart of Midlothian and fourth-placed FC Aberdeen qualified for the Europa League . In addition, Motherwell FC received a place for the Europa League as the fairest team in the Scottish League in the fair play rating . Inverness Caledonian Thistle rose to the First Division at the end of the season . With 27 goals, Kris Boyd of the Glasgow Rangers was top scorer.
